READING THE CRYSTAL BALL |
| THE CRYSTAL BALL | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A brief guide to the theory and practice of Crystallomancy | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| History
Divination using a reflective or translucent object (Scrying) developed in very ancient history among almost every culture. For example, the Babylonians, Ancient Egyptians, Hindus, Greeks, Mayans, Incas, North American Indians, Australian Aborigines all used scrying and many developed the use of a Crystal Ball (known as Crystallomancy). In Europe, the Crystal Ball has been known from 1500 years ago and many renowned mystics have used this method. Why Does It Work? As with all forms of divination, there is no accepted explanation. A popular theory is that every person has latent abilities which are unknowingly suppressed by the routines and rules of our day to day life. The degree to which these powers are buried away varies between different people - those who have it nearer the surface are regarded as seers or mystics. However all people have the ability - it can just come more quickly and easily to some. |

| Obtaining and Caring for your Crystal
Ball You need a ball large enough to read clearly but not so big that your eyes find it difficult to see it fully. For most people the ideal size is about 100 to 110mm (about 4 inches). Living Designs and Livingnet have an excellent value selection in their store or mail order from their website. Keep your Crystal Ball wrapped in a cloth when not in use. Always keep it out of direct sunlight (sunlight saps its power) and avoid extremes of heat and cold. Clean with a cloth moistened with a water/vinegar mix and polish with velvet or chamois. Most importantly do not let anyone else touch or handle it - or your rapport will be broken. |

| The Preparations Both you and the environment must be right! It is pointless trying to scry the Ball in a room full of people or in a noisy, distracting location. Best of all is to be alone in a room without noise or too much light - direct sunlight should always be avoided when scrying. At most just two other people should be present and anyone not directly involved with the reading should be silent and still. To help reading, drape a dark (black is best) non-reflective cloth to give a backdrop at the back of and beneath the Ball. For example you could stack a small pile of books and drape a cloth over them. Some like to have a candle burning at the rear or to one side of the Ball (always take care and read the instructions when using candles). They believe this activates the Ball but it can also be a distraction and is not recommended for beginners |

| Reading the
Crystal Ball Now you are ready to scry! The most important thing to emphasise for a beginner is not to expect immediate results. It is not a TV! A very special and delicate rapport needs to be developed between the reader and the ball which may come almost immediately to some but usually takes longer, perhaps months. Please do not be discouraged if your first sessions dont produce results, some of the finest scryers also found it very difficult to start. The keywords are relaxation and concentration! You need to be switched off from the world around you with all its worries and distractions and see only the Ball. Let it fill your vision and your mind. Dont worry about time. After a period you will begin to see some change in the Ball. This varies between scryers - - some see the Ball filling with milky clouds which change into different colours and then darkness followed by the appearance of images within the Ball - some see wispy white clouds which move through the crystal forming shapes of people and objects. - some see written messages - some see clear cinema quality films portraying events past, present and future You may find any of these or some other type of depiction. The images may not be very clear, especially at first. You may see shapes and silhouettes rather than sharp pictures. |

| Interpreting There are two possibilities - the images you see may be either actual or symbolic. This may sound confusing but in practice you will know instinctively which is which. Most scryers will see both images types at different times and sometimes in the same session. If you see actual events they may appear like a movie or a sequence of images which depict some event or occurrence. Again you will know whether this is in the past, present or future although some scryers adopt a rule using the position of the image in the Ball - at the centre the ball it represents the present, at the back the past and in the front the future. The very back of the ball is the distant past, the very front the distant future with progressions in-between. |

| Symbols in The Crystal Ball
Many symbolic images are obvious - in general you can trust your feelings when interpreting. This list may be helpful but your instincts are the best guide! |
